Clinical Info:

The cobas® HSV 1 and 2 Test detects and differentiates Herpes Simplex Virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) DNA from anogenital lesion swabs to aid in the diagnosis and management of genital herpes infections.

Sample Collection:

Anogenital lesion collected with the Mswab Collection System

Test Limitations:

Procedural Limitations The cobas® HSV 1 and 2 Test is validated only for anogenital lesion swabs collected using the MSwab Collection System. Accurate results depend on proper specimen collection, handling, and processing. False negatives may occur with samples heavily contaminated with blood, mucin, feces, or topical creams. A positive result indicates HSV DNA detection but does not confirm the presence of viable virus; a negative result does not rule out infection. Genetic mutations in target regions may cause false negative results.

Specimen Handling Instructions:

Specimen type: Anogenital lesion swabs collected with the MSwab Collection, Transport and Preservation System.
